چکیده

A surface coil for MRI consisted of two concentric loops was developed to produce brain images with a commercial MR imager. Prior to build the coil prototype, the magnetic field (B1) generated by the coil was numerically simulated. This field simulation is based on the Biot-Savart law for the circularand square-shaped loop coils. From these theoretical results, we can appreciate an improvement on the B1 homogeneity. Comparison of experimental SNR for a single-loop and dual concentric figure coils show that the latter has better sensitivity and uniformity. Phantom and brain images were obtained on a 1.5 Tesla clinical imager, and showed a good image quality. These brain images when compared against images obtained with a circular-shaped coil exhibit a better capability of penetration. This receiver coil can generate high quality brain images. This coil design can be used in clinical imagers and is compatible with conventional imaging sequences and protocols.

3-D RF Coil Design Considerations for MRI

High-frequency coils are widely used in medical applications, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. A typical medical MRI includes a local radio frequency transmit/receive coil. This coil is designed for maximum energy transfer or wave transfer through magnetic resonance. Mutual inductance is a dynamic parameter that determines the energy quantity to be transferred wirelessly by ele...

Reengineered Helmet Coil for Human Brain Studies at 3 Tesla

We describe the further development of a circularly polarized helmet coil for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the human brain at 3 T. The coil is used in transmit and receive (transceive) mode, a useful alternative over commercially available quadrature headcoils with scanners where phased arrays are unavailable. The coil is simple to build. Its structure is based on an assembly of two copl...

Static Coil Design Considerations for the Magnetic Resonance Imaging

One of the main challenges in developing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems is to create a static coil that needs to generate magnetic field density along with the characteristics of optimal homogeneity and magnitude size. To do this, two N42 Block PMs are used and the iron core is designed and optimized in accordance with the dimensions of PM pieces using ANSYS Maxwell software. Then, al...

Slotted surface coil for magnetic resonance imaging at 4T

Synopsis. A slotted surface coil, inspired on the cavity magnetron was developed for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 4T. Imaging tests using a saline phantom demonstrated that the slotted surface coil has deeper RF-sensitivity than the single-loop RF-coil. High quality images of two rats were acquired simultaneously using standard spin-echo pulse sequences, demonstrating that the slotted su...

Improvement of a 4-Channel Spiral-Loop RF Coil Array for TMJ MR Imaging at 7T

Ultra-high field (UHF) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the advantages of a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) (1, 2) as well as enhanced susceptibility T2* contrast (3, 4). However, it also has drawbacks, such as the inherent inhomogeneous radiofrequency (RF) magnetic (B1) field as well as limited penetration depth. The later is often affected by wave interaction between subject and RF coi...
